About
Mayte Natalio is a Dominican-American, movement-based performer, choreographer, and director, born and raised in Queens, New York. She trained at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts and earned her BFA from SUNY Purchase’s Conservatory of Dance.
Mayte began her career as a concert dancer, touring nationally and internationally with renowned companies including Parsons Dance Company, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, Kyle Abraham’s A.I.M, and Darrell Moultrie. While concert dance remains her foundation, Mayte has also made her mark in other genres. In commercial dance, some highlights include performing in a world tour with French pop icon Mylène Farmer, with Kanye West during his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy era, and with celebrated choreographers Rich & Tone.
Some film and television credits include The Get Down (Netflix), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime), Jesus Christ Superstar Live (NBC), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Netflix), and Harlem (Amazon Prime). In theater, she’s performed in several regional and Off-Broadway productions including being an original cast member of the Drama Desk Award-winning Queen of the Night and Third Rail Projects’ The Grand Paradise.
As a trained actor, Mayte studied Meisner at the William Esper Studio. She has appeared in various commercials and co-starred in the award-winning short film Rhythm Is Gonna Get Who? by Sol Crespo which she co-produced with Dominirican Productions. Most recently, she originated the role of Rosie Perez in The Hippest Trip: The Soul Train Musical at American Conservatory Theater.
Mayte’s evolution into choreography came naturally as her curiosity and desire for self-expression grew. Artists like Camille A. Brown, Sam Pinkleton, and Ann Yee recognized this interest and invited her onto their creative teams. Her breakthrough as a lead choreographer came with her original work Scary Stories: Episode Central Park 5, which she wrote, directed, and choreographed, inspired by Ken Burns’ documentary The Central Park Five.
Her recent choreography credits include Love in Hate Nation (Two River Theater), Hair (The Old Globe & Two River Theater), Kiss My Aztec! (Hartford Stage) and How to Dance in Ohio (Syracuse Stage). She choreographed the critically acclaimed art film Playland by Georden West, which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and fashion brand Pyer Moss show Wat U Iz, which was the first black American fashion brand invited to Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. She conceived, wrote, directed, and choreographed La Hora Santa, a digital immersive work created as part of Ars Nova’s Vision Residency program.
Mayte made her Broadway choreographic debut with How to Dance in Ohio, the first Broadway production to cast autistic actors in autistic roles, supported by an award-winning accessibility team. In the same season, she choreographed Shaina Taub’s Suffs, which won two Tony Awards in 2024 and earned her a Critics Choice Chita Rivera Award.
Mayte is also a producer and curator. As a Vision Resident at Ars Nova, she supported and provided platforms for artists Tyrone Davis Jr. and Charlene Kaye to develop their original solo shows. Kaye’s Tiger Daughter went on to have a very successful run at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and both shows continue to be performed.
Passionate about performance, storytelling, and community, Mayte looks forward to continuing to grow as a director, choreographer, producer, and curator—and is excited for what the future holds.
